i tried the utopengl 3.5 drivers they dont seem to have the darkness problem, but the framerate sometimes drops beneath 40 the old standard d3d7 does better than that.
i also tried the latest d3d9 drivers and they seem to work the best,i found out that when i tried them before i switched someting on in preferences that i shouldnt switch on>detailed colorized textures,it makes the floors look green.
with d3d9 i can turn on triliniar, triple buffering detailed textures ,high detailed actors etc. and still get a good framerate in big levels.

you should try mdgn's inis that i have ;) d3d8 - good smooth gameplay

also my inis have that bug you speak of becase of something with the opengl, might try installing 2.7 - rebooting my pc ussually sorts it

been thinking of getting a voodoo 5 and a 21" NEC screen but lol if i have the money or time to find them :p

i,ve also thought about buing an old system with a voodoo card but i dont think that that old equipment has the power for the really big maps.
why try 2.7? i thought 3.4 was the last stabel release 3.5 was a beta i think isn,t 2.7 very old?.
if its the bug of the green floors you have, you must turn off colorized detailed textures in preferences if its the starting up dark in opengl there was somebody who said not letting ut start up fullscreen and make it fullscreen after startup works.

lol poor direct draw...

voodoo 5 would eat ut...

i had a geforce 2 3d prophet II and it p*ssed on ut... lol better than my 1950... a certain R$A| member has it now lol i'll have it back if ur not using it mate -.-

and yeah the green issue is nothing and i just fix opengl when i start ut up or use mdgns inis which are also smooth

i went from a very crappy sis card on my parents pc (with windowsmillennium the disaster),to a nvidia mx460 ati 8500,ati 9700,ati850xt.
It always surprised me how bad the framerates where considering the power of the hardware compared to what was availebel when ut first came out.
what ive read about voodoo and glide is that it uses the hardwere more directly so perhaps im wrong comparing the voodoo to the the cards i have owned and thinking it would be less powerfull because its older.
btw the site where all the versions of the ut drivers were availebel exceeded its download limit i had to get the d3d9 drivers from softpedia.

the 1950 was ati?(if i remember correctly).i red on wikipedia that 3dfx was bought up by nvidia perhaps some of the legacy went into nvidia cards and drivers.which would make nvidia cards the better choice for ut.
